How Opinion Outpost works
Opinion Outpost is a market research panel owned by Dynata, the company formerly called Survey Sampling International and Research Now, and its site has been online since at least 2005. Dynata sells survey responses to brands, public bodies and research agencies, and members are paid in Opinion Points. Separate sites serve the US, the UK and Canada.
Most of the work is surveys, reached from invitation emails or the Surveys page. Opinion Outpost also runs product tests, with prototypes mailed to you at no cost; advert reviews; focus groups; diary studies; location-based surveys about shops and restaurants you visit; and surveys about ads you have seen on Google. The location, diary and Google ad studies need you to opt in to extra use of your data.
The site is built for phones, tablets and desktops, and Dynata's terms ask you to review your profile at least once every six months, which also improves how well surveys match you.
What Opinion Outpost points are worth
Opinion Outpost is clearer than most here. Its US rewards page says an average survey pays around 10 points and can pay up to 250, and gives the example of a member who earned 100 points from 10 surveys and redeemed them for a $10 Amazon gift card: 10 points to the dollar, or about $1 for an average survey. Its US homepage says it pays out the equivalent of $390,000 a month.
Dynata's terms are less generous. They say points have no monetary value until redeemed, and set the minimum redemption at the equivalent of $50 "unless there is a lower redemption option available". A recent US reviewer mentions a $5 Amazon card, so lower options do appear, but the terms also let Dynata change point values, redemption levels and conversion ratios at any time without notice.

Join Opinion Outpost →Surveys and crediting
Each survey opens with screening questions to confirm who you are and whether you match. Dynata's member help centre, which Opinion Outpost shares with Valued Opinions, says you are still credited if a survey screens you out, but only for the first 5 screen-outs in any 24 hours, and it does not say how much. A DollarSprout tester in February 2025 was paid nothing after 5 minutes or more of qualifying questions, and recent reviewers mention being screened out near the end of surveys; some say support looked into it and credited them when the fault lay with the agency running the survey.
Points for completed surveys are credited shortly after the survey passes a quality check. Product tests, diary studies and focus groups can take up to 6 weeks after the study closes. The help centre says surveys typically take around 15 to 20 minutes.
Dynata's terms list what counts as fraud: speeding through surveys, taking a survey twice, masking your identity, giving false information and running more than one account. Any of them can cost you your points and your account. The incentives, the terms add, are "not compensation for time spent".
Cashing out
Rewards depend on your country. The US site lists PayPal and gift cards including Amazon, Target, Walmart and DoorDash, and its homepage mentions a virtual Visa prepaid card; the UK site lists PayPal and retailers such as Tesco, Argos and John Lewis; the Canadian site lists PayPal, a virtual Visa prepaid card and gift cards including Tim Hortons and Amazon.ca.
The rules that apply to every redemption:
- Points leave your balance when you request a reward, and redemptions are final.
- You can redeem at most twice in 24 hours.
- Dynata may ask you to verify your identity through Veriff before you redeem, and the issuer of a virtual Visa or Mastercard can ask for your date of birth and tax number. The help centre says you only verify with Veriff once, the link expires after 7 days, and an ID that does not match your account details can hold redemptions for up to 72 hours.
- Your first redemption may need a code sent to a mobile or landline number.
- Dynata will not replace a lost or stolen reward.
- In the US, once payments reach $1,999 in a tax year your account can be suspended until you send a verified W-9 form, and Dynata issues a 1099-NEC.
Digital rewards should arrive by email within 24 hours, by the help centre's account, and can be re-sent from Reward History in your account.
If points or a reward go wrong, Dynata's terms say to email helpdesk@opinionoutpost.com with your name, email address and the details. The help page also offers a support assistant.
Point expiry and inactive accounts
Under Dynata's terms, every point expires one year after it posts. The member help centre is more generous: it says your balance never expires as long as you are an active panel member. Redeem regularly and the difference never matters. Separately, your account only counts as active if you take part in a survey or update your profile at least once every six months; otherwise Dynata can deactivate it. A deactivated member, or one who leaves, gets 30 days to redeem what is left, subject to the minimum redemption threshold. Anyone terminated for breaking the terms loses everything.
Dynata can also deactivate an account if its emails to you bounce, or if it gets a mailbox-full reply three times, so keep your email address working.
Is Opinion Outpost legit?
Yes. Opinion Outpost is run by Dynata, a long-established research data company, and members do get paid. Dynata went through a prepackaged Chapter 11 reorganisation in 2024 to cut its debt, filing in May and emerging in July with new owners including Bain Capital, and Opinion Outpost kept operating.
On Trustpilot, the US profile scores 4.2 from 5,401 reviews and the UK profile 4.2 from 1,976. Neither has invited reviews recently, so recent reviews are unprompted, and Opinion Outpost does not reply to negative ones. The US reviews from the last few months are mostly short and positive, praising quick gift cards; the complaints are slow earning, screen-outs late in surveys, and an account that was cancelled soon after sign-up and that support could not find.
Our read: Opinion Outpost is a plain, survey-only panel with a clearer point value than most and an established company behind it. Its own example of about $1 for an average survey is modest, and its terms leave room to change thresholds and close quiet accounts. Take a survey at least every few months, redeem at the smallest reward on offer, and pair it with a site that pays more per survey.
How to get the most out of Opinion Outpost
- Take a survey or update your profile at least every six months so the account stays active.
- Redeem at the smallest reward offered rather than saving towards $50; the terms expire points after a year.
- Never speed through a survey or answer inconsistently; Dynata treats both as fraud.
- Keep your email address working, since bounced emails can deactivate the account.
- Have ID ready in case Veriff asks you to verify before a redemption.
- Opt in to product tests and diary studies for larger rewards, and allow up to 6 weeks for them to credit.
- Pair it with a higher-paying survey site such as Prolific or Branded Surveys.
