How Toluna works

Toluna is a market research company founded in 2000 and based in Vincennes, France, and Toluna Influencers is its member panel. Brands, agencies and other clients pay Toluna for consumer opinion, and members are paid in points. Its members' FAQ describes over 21 million users in 50 countries and 28 languages; you join the site for the country you live in.

You earn points for surveys, which Toluna says pay 15 to 50,000 points depending on length; for profile surveys, at 100 points each, which you can update every 6 months for more; for referrals; and for some games in its Games Centre. New members get 500 points on signing up. Posting in the forums earns nothing, and copying another member's opinion or text from elsewhere can get an account cancelled.

Referrals pay 500 points once a friend completes registration, for up to 10 friends a month.

What Toluna points are worth

Toluna's US terms say points have no cash value until you redeem them, when they "automatically convert to cash values", and that in its current model 3,000 points is equivalent to $1.00. It does not publish its rewards catalogue outside the member area, and its FAQ says the rewards on offer depend on your country.

Third-party guides to the US site put gift cards from 30,000 points ($10), some brands such as Amazon from $25, and PayPal only from 95,000 points ($30), paid in $30 steps. At 3,000 points to the dollar the 500-point welcome bonus is worth about 17 cents and a 100-point profile survey about 3 cents. Check the Rewards page in your own account before you plan around any figure.

Surveys and crediting

Invitations arrive by email and in the Survey Centre, and the app lets you filter surveys by length, category or reward. Members who add a mobile number may also get some surveys by text message. Toluna's terms say it does not guarantee any minimum number of invitations.

Screen-outs are the sore point. Toluna's FAQ is explicit: when you do not qualify, your partial answers are discarded and "you will not receive points". Its recent Trustpilot reviews keep returning to the same complaint, of being screened out halfway or three-quarters of the way through a survey. Keeping your profile surveys up to date is the main lever Toluna offers for qualifying more often.

Points can arrive straight away or within a few days, but for some surveys they only credit once the survey has closed, which Toluna says can take up to six weeks. If a survey errors, Toluna's support asks for the survey ID and a screenshot.

Cashing out and point expiry

Rewards include gift vouchers, PayPal cash and products, chosen from a Rewards page that lists what is available in your country. Toluna asks you to allow up to 3 weeks for delivery, and its terms say PayPal payments arrive within 3 weeks. Recent reviewers on Trustpilot and Google Play describe slow payouts, including a South African member who said a voucher took three months.

The expiry rules are strict:

• Each point is valid for 12 months from the day you earn it, and is deleted near the 28th of the month in which it expires.
• If you have not taken part in a survey or any other activity for 12 months, the account counts as inactive and every point is forfeited. Toluna's terms say it will not send any notice.
• Closing your account forfeits all your points.
• If Toluna ends its points programme, or closes your account for a reason other than a breach of its terms, you have 30 days to redeem.

Toluna can pass information to tax authorities or withhold tax, and if you do not answer a request for tax details within 30 days you can lose your points or prizes.

Account rules

Toluna's terms give it room to close any account "at any time for any reason", and set out the rules most likely to cost you points:

• One account per person, aged 16 or over; rewards won by under-18s go to a legal guardian.
• Use Toluna only from the country you registered in. Its terms say taking surveys from abroad "can be seen as fraudulent", and VPNs, proxies and Tor are banned.
• Keep your device's country and language settings matching your account.
• Keep your personal details accurate; Toluna can suspend an account and forfeit its points if they are not.
• Never copy opinions from other members or other websites into anything you post.
• Support runs through a web form on the Contact Us page.

Is Toluna legit?

Yes. Toluna is an established research company, founded in 2000, that runs its own panel and has bought Harris Interactive and MetrixLab along the way. Its size depends on who is talking: the members' FAQ says over 21 million users in 50 countries, while its corporate site claims a panel of more than 81 million consumers.

On Trustpilot it scores 4.2 from 256,781 reviews, 57% of them five stars and 7% one star. Toluna invites members to review it and pays for a Trustpilot subscription, and 67,543 reviews arrived in the 12 months to October 2026, so the score reflects current members rather than old ones. The recurring complaints are screen-outs late in a survey, too few surveys in some countries, rewards that cost too many points and payments that take weeks. Its apps score 4.5 on Google Play from 393K reviews and 4.6 on the App Store from 8.8K ratings.

Our read: Toluna is a reasonable secondary panel, and one of the few with real reach beyond the big English-speaking markets. Its pay for your time is low once unpaid screen-outs are counted, and the 12-month expiry means a balance left to grow can disappear. Log in regularly, redeem as soon as you reach a reward you want, and pair it with a site that pays something for screen-outs.

How to get the most out of Toluna

• Complete every profile survey and refresh them every 6 months; each pays 100 points and improves your matches.
• Redeem as soon as you reach a reward you want, before points start to expire.
• Take part in something at least every few months so the account never counts as inactive.
• Use Toluna only from your home country, without a VPN, and with your device language matching your account.
• Filter surveys by length in the app, and favour short ones if you are often screened out.
• Check the PayPal email on your account before redeeming for PayPal.
• Pair it with a site that pays something for screen-outs, such as MyPoints.
